Horseback tails have always been a staple for the summer, and finding ways to take your horse up a few cuts can be difficult, so for the Billboard Style Beach Week, we enlisted the help of the co-founder of IGK Hair Care and the influential stylist Franck Izquierdo to show us six ways to amplify this easy ‘do, inspired by some of our favorite celebrities.
“This is a great horse for after a workout because it does not need to be perfect to look good,” says Izquierdo. To create this look, refresh your roots with Jet Lag Invisible Dry Shampoo and brush through the roots to the ends. Then spray the Beach Club Volumizing Texture Spray about 6 inches away from the head to give volume and overall texture. Use your hands to build your high pony, leaving the roots a little messy and messy. For medium to long hair, once secured with an elastic, apply more of the Beach Club Texture Spray and work with your fingers to create the fun and messy look you are trying to achieve.
For a smooth, “wet” look, Izquierdo likes to mix the Mistress Anti-Frizz Conditioner and the Rich Kid Coconut Oil Gel together, “using a combination of 70 percent Ama and 30 percent Rich Kid. wet look while rich kid gives you hold and memory. “Apply from the roots to the ends of the hair and comb (not brush) through. “You can do this as a high or low pony, but just be sure that the hair stays soft along the head and that the elastic is tight for a firm hold. Once your pony is secured, use one small section of hair to wrap the elastic and secure, this will hide the elastic and give you a more sophisticated look, “says Izquierdo. To finish, apply more of the mixture on the pony lengths and smooth their ends.
“For a tall pony, you want the roots and hair along the head to be soft and the ponytail to have fun and get rid of the texture,” says Izquierdo. Start by applying Mid-Length Dirty Spray Down & Out to the ends of the hair to create piecey texture and grip. Use a brush or comb and pull your hair up, placing the pony on top of your head. The higher the pony, the better. Once secured with a rubber band, apply Laid Back DeFrizz and Anti-Static Spray to reduce frizz and smooth down flyaways from the hairline. Complete working down and out through the lengths of the ponytail to add even more texture.
“One of my personal favorites,” says Izquierdo. “This pony should look elegant throughout the head, but be casual and textured in the ponytail.” To achieve this, apply the Kid Kid-Dry Styler coconut oil from the roots to the middle hair lengths, avoiding the ends. Comb and collect the hair at the nape of the neck. Secure with an elastic, ensuring the hair along the head is soft and elegant. Apply the Beach Club Volumizing Texture Spray to horsetail lengths to add texture and create a fresh, floating look.
